SCARC Meeting of February 14, 2008

Meeting Call to order took place at 7:00 pm
No visitors were introduced. 17 members were present including one guest, Bob Wallace, KJ4AJR

President Bill Davidson, KW4J, announced the receipt of 2 new membership applications - Lee Crever, N8MHC and Hub Harvey, N4HUB. Both were elected to full membership.

Vice President Jim McLester, W4YXU, mentioned the upcoming programs.

No minutes from he previous meeting were read since they are available on the club's website.

Treasurer Jack Evans, KC4PZA, announced that the club has received 3 applications for the upcoming ARES class. He also announced that the Fleagate raised $628.00 for the club.

Jack, reported the following balances in the club's bank accounts:
Checking - $79.61
Savings - $1,950.53
Repeater - $919.08

He also gave a status report on Lee Aured, KI4NMD who will be coming home next Wednesday after a short stay at the Lakeshore Foundation.

President Bill Davidson passed around 2 publications for reading (Hamsay Magazine & Alabama ARES Update). The Alabama ARES Update contained a long article concerning the tower work done at the Shelby County EMA by the members of SCARC. He mentioned that the next VE test would be Sunday, March 2nd at the BARC headquarters.

Bob Thomas, KC4AF, told about his recent trip to Tuscaloosa to view that club's repeater controller.

Jack Evans, KC4PZA, had nothing to report concerning the Red Cross's move to another location.

John Wilder, WB4CCQ, thanked Marcus Thomas, KF4YHP, for his work on the towers at the Shelby County EMA headquarters in Columbiana.

Bill Davidson presented John Murphy, KA4ZXL with a plaque honoring him for his work with the club as ARES net manager since 1988. John was also designated as Associate Web Master.

Bob Thomas reported that the Fleagate was a success and has requested that future Fleagates begin at 10:00am vice 8:00am. He also suggested holding a silent auction for any goods donated to the Club.

Alex Davies, W4AVD had no report concerning Field Day. Bill Davidson reminded the Field Day Committee that Field Day is about four months away and that they should begin preparations. Alex (along with Marcus Thomas) mentioned that he is in the process of securing two large coolers for Field Day.

Secretary Frank Hoult, KI4VVI reported that ARRL will not charge the club for his label order and that he has mailed out a few letters & applications to former club members. That order is expected around March 1st.

Bob Thomas suggested that we mention membership to all hams using our repeater who are not current club members.

John Outland, K3FP announced that there will be a party honoring Pete Sides W4AUP on his 100th birthday. That party will be held in Montgomery on April 12th from 2 - 4 pm.

A motion was made, seconded and passed that the next meeting on February 14 be held at the Shelby County EMA.

John Murphy gave a demonstration of ham software on his laptop computer.
