Meeting Notes for September 25, 2008

Call to order was given at 7:00pm by President Bill Davidson KW4J who asked the attndees to introduce themselves. Three visitors were present - Leonard Smith KJ4AZH, Timothy Smith KJ4GNY and Kristin Smith KJ4GNZ.

VP Jim McLester W4YXU, Informed the group that Les Rayburn, N1LF will be present at tonight's meeting to present his talk on the ICS Format and Structure.

Secretary Frank Hoult, KI4VVI, read a card from Mary Kinard thanking all of the volunteers who helped out with the Hurricane Gustav evacuees in Columbiana. He also read an email asking for volunteers at the Piedmont Run in November and he reported that the Birmingham News is continuing to announce the Club's meetings.

Hub Harvey N4HUB, acting for the MEC, reported that the SET exercise will commence on October 4th and canvassed the attendees for volunteers.

President Davidson gave his year end report citing the many accomplishments that the club has achieved over the past year.

No new member application were received at this time, however three applications from our visitors were turned in afterwards and will be voted on at the next meeting.

President Davidson gave an update on the Red Cross Equipment Installation status. He told the group that the equipment still needs to be installed. He also told the group that the EMA BBQ shed still needs to be painted.

Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas, KC4AF, announced that a new repeater radio is coming. He also canvassed the group concerning the format used by the 146.98 repeater.

VP McLester told the club that the radio is an ICOM dual band and gave a short talk as to the functions of this new radio.

President Davidson asked the group about a date for the SCARC Christmas party and December 11, 2008 stqrting at 6:00 PM was selected. It was also agreed that, due to the holidays, there will be no meeting on November 27th or December 25th.

President Davidson went on to say that the club will have a Skywarn training class on October 23 at the Sheriff's Training Center.

John Outland, K3FP, announced that the Montgomery Hamfest, scheduled for November 8th would be dedicated to Pete Sides W4AUP.

A very informative program on the ICS Format was presented by Les Rayburn N1LF.

Minutes for September 11, 2008

Call to order was given at 7pm President Bill Davidson KW4J requested that the attendees introduce themselves. One visitor was recognized - Dean Byrd, K4DHB.

Vice President Jim McLester, W4YXU, reported that Les Rrayburn, N1LF, will give a program on ICS at the next meeting.

Treasurer Jack Evans, KC4PZA, reported the following bank account balances:
Savings - $2,093.39
Checking - $196.41
Repeater fund - $1,203.07

Secretary Frank Hoult, KI4VVI, reported that the Birmingham News is continuing to run our announcements. He also said that the FCC has been a victim of phissing. There were will be Fleagate this Saturday September 13 at Gadsden.

MEC Rod Scott, N1YZ, reported that the Butternut antenna and ICOM 2820 radio have been delivered to the Shelby County EMA and need to be installed.

President Davidson reminded the Club that the SCARC VE test would be given October 3rd. A D-Star Seminar will be held by BARC at a future date. The BARC Christmas Party will be given Dec 4th. The Montgomery Hamfest will be held on November 9.

Two applications were received, voted on and approved as new members: John Theabolt, KJ4AZK, and Billy K Graham, W4BKG.

Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas, KC4AF reported that the Arcom Controller has been online for the past 2 days and Jim McLester said that the controller has been picking up some noise and that some of its features have not been turned on. Bob added that a newer vhf/uhf radio is needed to take advantage of the Arcomm Controller's functions.

Red Cross Liaison Jack Evans said that he and Hub Harvey N4HUB met with the Red Cross yesterday and Hub gave a report about the recent hurricane evacuee shelter in Columbiana. Jack mentioned that the club needs to install some radio gear at that location at a later date.

Web Master John Murphy, KA4ZXL, told the group that a new call sign link has been set up on the club's web page.

Bill Davidson announced that SKYWARN classes will be held at the Jefferson County EMA on October 18th and November 8th. He canvassed the attendees for interest in asking for a future class at our location. Several hands were raised. He reminded everyone that the SET exercise is to be held on October 4th & 5th. Les Rayburn told the group that it will be a tri-county event and the exact date may change.

This meeting was the annual election of club officers and Ken Caruso, KS4NX, the chairman of the election committee conducted the voting procedure. The results were:

Les Rayburn announced that he will sent out a list of applicable frequencies related to the evacuations of the Texas coast due to Hurricane Ike. 3935khz is the national hurricane frequency.

Hub Harvey told the group that the EVA (Alabama) ARC will hold a foxhunt on Saturday, September 13th.

Nadine Evans asked for all members to assist her with composing the club's scrapbook. She asked for any old pictures, articles, etc.

President Davidson announced that the Red Cross equipment needs to be installed soon. He plans to set up a committee for that purpose and asked for volunteers to serve on it. He also said that the renovation of the BBQ shed at the EMA HQ will be discussed at a later date.
