SCARC Meeting Minutes April 23, 2009

At 7:00 PM a regular meeting of the Shelby County Amateur Radio Club at the American Red Cross Office on Valleydale Road was called to order by President Bill Davidson KW4J who asked the attendees to identify themselves by name and call sign. Three visitors were present and welcomed: Robert Fortenberry, KG4TZH, Bob Warner, KR4JT and Mark Hobson, KE4ZBW.

The following upcoming events were noted
· Birmingham Fest May 2 and 3.
· Dayton Hamvention May 15-17
· Alabaster City Fest June 6
· Alabama QSO Party June 6
· ARRL Field Day June 27 and 28

SCARC Field Day activity will be held at the Shelby County EMA in Columbiana.

Vice President Jim McLester W4YXU said that three upcoming programs will be ARRL Power Point Presentations.

Treasurer Jack Evans, KC4PZA reported:
· Savings account $3,935.89
· Checking account $110.85
· Repeater account $1,283.30
· No bills outstanding

One new member application was read and voted into membership: Randy Wilson, KJ4KZS

President Davidson stated that correspondence was sent to OMIK noting BARC and SCARC recognition and support of the July Convention.

Bob Thomas KC4AF was recognized as the chairman of the Nmination Committee Chairman. Other members are Jim McLester W4YXU, Marcus Thomas KF4YHP, and Rod Scott N1YZ.

John Outland K3FP presented his pneumatic antenna launcher.

Alex Davies announced the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure to be held on April 25 and asked for volunteer radio operators to assist with the race.

Program Chairman and Vice President Jim McLester W4YXU presented an ARRL Power Point program on Repeater Basics.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.

SCARC Meeting Notes - April 9, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Davidson at 6:50pm and the attendees introduced themselves; there was one visitor, Denise Wilson.

President davidson them outlined some upcoming events - the Barc Ham fest for May 2-3, the Dayton Ham fest May 15-18, Alabsaster Citifest June 6, Field Day June 27-28. Also the June 25 meeting will feature food and drink at the EMA site.

VP Jim McLester, W4YXU reported that he has lined up program nights for the next few months.

Treasurer Jack Evans, KC4PZA, gave our bank account balances, savings account ($3,725.89, checking ($110.85) and repeater account ($1,278.35). There are no outstanding bills.

Frank Hoult, KI4VVI, was substituting for Secretary Mike Thomason, K4FQF, announced that the Birmingham News is still continuing to cover our meeting announcements.

President Davidson gave gave an overview of the ARECC001 course. which is scheduled for April 18-19 at the Jefferson County EMA.

One new member, Andy Brakefield KJ4JKG was recognized.

VE Chairman, Joe Ford, K4NVJ, announced that on the last SCARC testing, 5 people were tested. Of that, 4 tech passed their test and 1 tech was upgraded to general.

Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas, KC4AF, mentioned that the next project would be to have better coverage in the Chelsea area.

Red Cross Liaison Patty King, KJ4FTZ, told the group about the General license classes that Ron Andrews KC0I, is currently holding at the Red Cross building. She also asked that we club members all leave the meeting room clean.

President Davidson said that a new Shelby County EMA liaison would me announced at the club's next meeting.

Web Master John Murphy, KA4ZXL, gave an overview of the club's website.

President Davidson reminded everyone of the OMIK Convention in July.

Jack Evans said that the EMA BBQ shed work should start shortly.

The Club has a booth at the Alabaster Cityfest, scheduled for June 6. A volunteer sign-up sheet was passed around.

President Davidson updated the attendees about the SCARC By-law and Constitution changes to change the status of the Repeater Trustee to officer level. The BOD approved the change and it will be emailed to the Club members for their approval. The proposed changes will be voted upon at the May 7 regular meeting.

President Davidson asked for volunteers for the Election Committee.

Ron Andrews KC0I gave the group details about the above mentioned General license classes that he is giving on Tuesday nights at the Red Cross building from 6 to 7pm.

Marcus Thomas, KF4YHP, the Field Day chairman, gave an overview of his progress and asked for input from the club.

Barbara McLester, W5YXU told the group that she is currently designing t-shirts for the club and asked for their input as to the design and color. She may bring samples to a future club meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.
