Call to order was given at 7:00 pm by President Bill Davidson who requested the attendees to introduce themselves and there were no visitors.
Vice President Jim McLester, WK5YXU, reported that Les Rayburn, N1LF, will present the September Program on September 25th.
Treasurer Jack Evans, KC4PZA, gave the following club account balances:
Savings account - $2,043.39
Checking - $131.41
Repeater - $1,203.07
He also reported one outstanding bill of $179.00 for the club's equipment insurance.
Secretary Frank Hoult, KI4VVI presented an email from John Franklin asking the club for assistance in repairing his radio. No one was able to help. He also informed the group about the upcoming AMSAT Symposium coming to Atlanta, GA in October and that he had mailed a sympathy card to Jerry Fiore N1JF after the last meeting.
MEC Rod Scott, N1YZ, told the group that Mindy at the EMA has requested a correct contact list from the club. He announced a weather briefing at the EMA headquarters (Columbiana) on Friday (August 29th) at 3pm concerning emcomm preparations for Hurricane Gustav.
President Davidson announced that Les Rayburn, N1LF has been installed as the Alabama Section EC. He also asked the group if anyone would be willing to be placed on a new "Elmer List" to be placed on the club's website. Bob Thomas, KC4AF suggested that all members who have been licensed for 10 or more years be placed on that list. This list is in response to an idea made by Frank Hoult to help all newly licensed members.
Repeater chairman Bob Thomas KC4AF reported that the new Arcom controller will be installed next week on the club's 146.98 MHz repeater.
Election Committee chairman Ken Caruso KS4NX reported the slate of candidates for the upcoming election; he asked all officers to give a job description. Hub Harvey N4HUB put his name in for the MEC position. Bob Thomas announced that Mike Thomason K4FQF has been nominated for the Secretary position.
President Davidson gave a report on the status of the installation of equipment at the Red Cross HQ. There are 3 VHF/UHF that need to be installed at a later date. He reminded the Club of the planned SET exercise on October 4th & 5th. BARC will have their VE testing on September 6th. SCARC elections will be held on September 11th (next meeting). The next Shelby County EMA tutorial will be held on October 30th.
Hub Harvey gave a slide presentation on his recent disaster relief efforts in Minnesota and Iowa.

Repeater Committee Chairman Bob Thomas KC4AF reported that he is working on the repeater batteries and Jim McLester included a short status report on the Arcomm controller.
Bill Davidson said that a new DStar radio and a new antenna are on order for the communications at Shelby EMA. He also reminded the club about the October 31st EMCOMM tutorial to be held at the EMA headquarters. He went on further to say that September is EMCOMM month and that the club may begin sending practice messages on the Tuesday night (8pm) net.
Webmaster John Murphy KA4ZXL said that he is currently updating the club's webpage.

Training at Shelby EMA
Congratulations to John Wilder WB4CCQ for conducting the first training session at the Shelby County EMA office last night, July 31. He went through a tutorial on the installed radio equipment and demonstrated several pieces to the 14 SCARC attendees. He also held a tutorial on message handling using the ARRL message form which will be used most of the time. Also, he explained the need for logging and exhibited a proposed logging form. He will be holding a second training session on October 30 for any of the Club members who could not make the first one.
In 2009 John hopes to conduct a different session during which he will teach the members how to use the computer programs such as WinLink2000 (Air Mail) and several others. We are all looking forward to it.
