Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President Bill Davidson (KW4J)
President Bill Davidson reminded the members of two upcoming events -
Alabama QSO Party on June 7th and the Field Day on June 28 & 29.
VP Jim mcLester (W4YXU) announced that Les rayburn (N1LF) would have the upcoming Program for the May 22nd meeting.
Treasurer Jack Evans (KC4PZA) announced that the club had the following balances in their bank accounts:
Savings $2,210.89
Checking $73.37
Repeater Fund $990.43
He stated that the club just received a $659.95 check from the Red Cross for the Club's stranded assets and that money will be added to the Repeater Fund.
Jack also reported that a duplexer was recently purchased for the club's repeater in the amount of $350.00. No bills are outstanding at the moment.
Jack announced that he has been named the Section Traffic Manager for Alabama.
Secretary Frank Hoult (KI4VVI) announced that the Birmingham News is still printing our clubs meetings in both the paper and on their website.
MEC Rod Scott (N1YZ) praised today's handling of the Net during today's storms. He also asked for volunteers for work partys at the EMA scheduled for May 17th.
John Wilder (W4CCQ) mentioned that the SCARES Emergency Net had 21 check-ins during this afternoon's severe weather event.
Jack also informed theClub that a 40-80 meter verticle antenna is needed at the EMA headquarters. He also said that other equipment needs to be installed at the EMA headquarters.
President Bill Davidson congratulated the recent BARC Hamfest prize winners.
Bill announced that 40 people were tested on Saturday at the Hamfest and 10 were tested on Sunday's session.
Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas (KC4AF) announced that the club needs to purchase a 2nd Kenwood repeater for $1500.00 as well as some feedline. He said that the Tuscaloosa link is working well and that an additional $480 is needed to purchase an ARCOM controller. A lengthy discussion concerning alternatives to these purchase followed. A vote on Ed Boutwell's(W4ZSB) proposal to purchase the controller was made and16 members voted yea, none voted nay, and there were 6 abstaining.
Red Cross Liaison Jack Evans had nothing to report.
Shelby EMA Liaison John Wilder asked for volunteers to help at the EMA headquarters during severe weather outbreaks.
Web Master John Murphy ( KA4ZXL) announced that he work on updating the club's website could be viewed after the meeting.
Shelby EMA Construction chairman Rod Scott had nothing new to report.
President Bill Davidson announced that the QSO party details would be discussed at the club's next meeting.
He also said that the Oak Mountain Search & Rescue Training session is scheduled for 4pm on May 17th.
Bill reported that the Skywarn classes could be available in the Fall and he will research this matter further.
He also announced that the club's next meeting would be held at the EMA headquarters in Columbiana
He suggested that a future meeting, possibly early Fall have a swap meet.
Bill also announced that UAB's repeater is online on 145.230 mha with a PL of 203.5
Les Rayburn (N1LF) passed out the State EMA badges for those who had earned them.
Jack Evans gave an update on the health of Lee Aured (KI4NMD).
