The meeting was called to order by President Bill Davidson at 7:00 PM and them attendees were requested to introduce themnslelves. Two visitors were present – Larry Sharp W4DMW and Rich Ranson N9YAY.
SCARC will not meet on November 27 or December 25 due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The SCARC Christmas party will be on December 11.
Vice President Jim McLester said the January 8 program will be NTS traffic handling.
President Davidson reported that Club Treasurer Jack Evans KC4PZA was recuperating from shoulder surgery and would be back with us shortly.
Tom Appleby, KI4PPR announced that there will be a fire burn conducted by the LEPC on Saturday Nov 20 to eradicate certain underbrush areas at Oak Mountain State Park. He reported there will be a county wide emergency training session for Jefferson and Shelby Counties in the spring.
VE Testing Committee Chairman Joe Ford K4NVJ reported that the November 2 VE test session brought 1 new ham and 1 upgrade. Then next test session is set for Friday December 5 at the Shelby Red Cross Office at Pelham.
Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas KC4AF reported that the repeater was functioning satisfactorily.
President Davidson reported that installation of station equipment at the Hoover Red Cross office will proceed after the first of the year.
Webmaster John MurphyKA4ZXL said his main computer was still in shop but he was able to update the SCARC web page.
Due to a vacancy on the Board of Directors, President Richardson called for volunteers to fill that spot. There were no volunteers from the floor so the President recommended John Outland K3FP as Director. This was approved by the membership.
The vacancy on the Board of Directors was discussed and John Outland K3FP was elected to rill remaining term for Lee Aured KI4NMD who is now Sk.
The painting of the barbecue shed at the EMC building was delayed until spring. it was suggested that possibly a special event station be set up for this project.
Rich Ranson, N9YAY new DEC for the Alabama section was introduced and welcomed as a visitor to our meeting.
Correspondence from Les Rayburn detailed plans for establishing amateur radio stations at area hospitals, stating that grants had been used to purchase equipment for this use.
Bob Thomas KC4AF said the annual swap meet would be held at the park in Helena on the 1st. Saturday in February, 2009. He also asked for any interest in building a screwdriver antenna as per outlined on the web page DK3 screwdriver antenna, possibly a future program and building session. VP Jim McLester was asked to consider this for a program series for the upcomingmonths.
Steven Moss KB4FKN announced that a Skywarn training session would be held this Saturday at the BJCC with Brian Peters instructing.
