SCARC Minutes January 8, 2009

The meeting was called to order by the President Bill Davidson KW4J who asked the attendees to introduce themselves. There was one visitor, Terry Dillard KI4YZI, who later submitted his application and was voted into membership.

Tentative Field Day plans were discussed and a Chairman is to be named at a later meeting. Volunteers are encouraged for this project. Venue will probably be the Shelby EMA as it proved to be very successful last year. Special thanks were given to Joe Ford N4NVJ for his great job last year as Field Day Chairman.

Vice President Jim McLester W4YXU outlined the next few programs and said the he is also considering some short programs for our business meetings. Jack Evans KC4PZA will give the program for the January 22 meeting concerning traffic handling. The February program is scheduled to be a demonstration of the Elecraft K3 Transceiver by Joe Ford.

Treasurer Jack Evans KC4PZA reported the following account balances:
Savings $2155.89
Checking $ 60.80
Repeater Fund $1209.58
No outstanding bills.

Tom Appleby, KI4PPR submitted a detailed outline of Planned Emergency Communications Planning for 2009 with copies for Officers and Board Members.


The President read Jeff Drew N4JDU’s letter concerning the OMIK convention to be held in Birmingham in July 15-18 and said that SCARC would assist as needed. He also reminded the Club members that the ARES on line data base is now up and running.

Joe Ford N4NVJ, VE Testing Chairman said that the next testing date was the 1st. Friday in February. Also, the testing fee is now $15.00.

Repeater Chairman Bob Thomas KC4AF said that a second repeater site was planned for Pinnacle Point and would be in the works later this year.

The President announced that the new Red Cross Liaison is Patty King KI4FTZ.

The Club membership approved $800.00 for the purchase of a second Arcom controller and a uhf/vhf transceiver.

By unanimous vote the Club approved free membership for the year 2009 for members John Murphy KA4ZXL and Marcus Thomas KF4YHP for their outstanding service to the Club and members.


The Boy Scouts will hole a merit badge day on January 31 at Oak Mountain High School.

Net Manager Rod Scott N1YZ reported that the 2008 total check-ins for the Tuesday net is 1003 with an average session being 32.4. Rod presented certificates of appreciation to Net Managers.

The President noted that member Charles Spanos N4DKE was in Brookwood Hospital following surgery and asked for prayers for his recovery.
