A SCARC regular business meeting owas called to order at teh Shelby County Red Cross Office by President Bill Davidson KW4J at 7:00 PM. Members were welcomed and recognized by name and call sign. One visitor, Denise Wilson was present.
President Davidson reminded club members of the upcoming OMIK Convention to be held in Birmingham on July 17 thru 19 at The Doubletree Hotel in downtown Birmingham.
The election committee report will be given at the August 13 Club meeting.
The Huntsville Hamfest is August 15-16 and the Cullman Hamfest is July 25.
President Davidson presented the ATTABOY Award to two club members for their “above and beyond” work for SCARC as teh two past year Field Day Chairmen - Joe Ford, K4NVJ (2008) and Marcus Thomas KF4YHP (2009).
Vice President Jim McLester, W4YXU reported that the program for the July 23 meeting will be given by Bob Thomas , KC4AF, subject – ARRL Public Relations for Amateur Operation.
Tom Appleby, W4TCA, EC Mgr. announced the following emergency training opportunities:
July 13 – Norfolk Southern RR Responder Course
July 14 Homeland Security Communications vehicle demonstration (Tuscaloosa)
July 30 ARES Training session (At the Shelby Red Cross Office)
Club members were reminded that ARRL renewal memberships should be made thru SCARC for Club compensation.
Joe Ford, K4NVJ, VE Testing Chairman reported that 9 applicants were tested at the last session, Testing schedule being the 1st. Sunday of each month. Two SCARC members were recognized for their upgrade to Extra Grade - Patty King AJ4RO and John Murphy. KA4ZXL.
Bob Thomas, KC4AF, Repeater Trustee said that work was being done to improve repeater dead spots in the Chelsea area. A discussion among members followed. Jim McLester, W4YXU said that a new power supply at the repeater side had been successfully tested and run.
Patty King, AJ4RO, Red Cross Liaison, told of training plans available to club members.
Terry Dillard KI4YZI SC EMC Liaison showed completed info sheets on radio equipment at the Shelby County EMA location
John Murphy, Webmaster said several changes to links on the club web site had been made and encouraged members to make use of the SCARC web page.
President Davidson recognized Jim Niven KI4BRE for his work at the barbecues stand at the Shelby County EMA location,
Marcus Thomas, KF4YHP, Field Day Chairman reported a successful and enjoyable Field Day. The club earning a total of 3,880 points for the operation.
Randy Wilson. W4VIP, suggested that the club investigate changing the web site host with the idea of monetary savings. President Davidson asked Wilson to pursue this idea.
Bob Thomas, KC4AF moved that the club give an honorary membership to Jeff Glass N4GEG for the club’s use of the 146.29 repeater, The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
